, the not so official explanation into why BayFlight 3 had a "hard Landing" (thank you saint petersburg times for that inaccurate, totally vague, and utterly useless hyped up piece of garbage of an article).
Right now they believe that the PT wheel, part of the starboard turbine was defective and cracked, this caused the wheel to go unbalanced (suprising, its only spinning a 36000 rpms) and sent lubrication oil flying over the place. Not only did that engine shut down, but it shook the aircraft, caught the high temperature oil on fire, and stalled the other engine with all the smoke. None the less the pilot got it down with no problem and it didnt even have so much as a "hard landing", the fuselage may have to be scrapped on the count of metal stress caused by the fire. But thats the manufacturers problem, once again proving my theory that everything wrong in the universe can somehow be traced back to Honeywell (the company that owns the smaller company who manufactures the German Bk-117 in the U.S.).
